Stairs

The stairways in the house. When you come in you have all the mailboxes to your right, along with the garbage pails for the whole building. They have a timed light switch to illuminate the stairwell (I didn't find this out until the third day; I must have made quite the racket stumbling up the stairs in the dark). My little place is on the 7th floor, but what the French call the 6th, since they don't count the ground floor. On good days I can make it up with none of that unattractive wheezing.
